Baffle Plate -
The spring loaded plate that forces soil into the shredder.  These plates allow rocks to pass without harming the shredder blades.

Belt Tracking -
The process of adjusting the conveyor belt in order to keep the belt centered on the idlers and the pulleys.

Conversion Kit -
A power beyond kit needed to convert engine power to hydraulic drive power for an additional stacking conveyor or other peripheral machine (such as dewatering sand screw).  Consists of a pump, filter, valve and all hosing.

Chute -
A material deflector used to deflect material away from the shaker screen on to the ground or into the load hopper of a stacking conveyor.  Typical options are short straight chute, short taper chute, long taper chute, fines deflector chutes, and fines collection chute (also sometimes called a funnel chute.)

Diesel Module -
An independent power module used to power stacking conveyors and wash screws.

Fines -
The finished product that passes through all screens.

Finger Screens -
A screen used when raw material contains lots of roots and stringy type material.  Finger Screens cascade on top of one another, never allowing to clog on the screen.  (See picture in TYPES OF SCREENS section)

Grade 80 Steel -
This is a structural steel harder than normal mild steel that allows equipment to be built stronger without increasing the weight.

Grizzly -
The rough prescreen portion of a conventional screening plant that sits on top of the hopper.

Remote Control Grizzly on the Developer and Producer (optional) plants, the grizzly can be cleared by use of a remote control.

Manual Tipping Grizzly on the Producer, Achiever and Pulverize II (optional), the grizzly can be cleared by using the loader bucket and lifting up the grizzly.

Grizzly Screen -
A heavy duty screen used on the top deck of Scalper 107T’s for rough screening.  (see picture in TYPES OF SCREENS section).

Hammermill -
Typically called a shredder. (see “Shredder”)

Harp Screen -
A wire screen that resembles a harp, allowing the wires to vibrate slightly to reduce plugging in stickier material applications, such as dirt or damp sand.  (See picture in TYPES OF SCREENS section.)

Independent Hydraulics -
Refers to each function of a machine, having its own hydraulic pump, valve and motor.  This guarantees full power to all functions at all times.  This also enhances efficiency, making hydraulics more robust and easier to diagnose problems.

Idler -
The rollers that support the conveyor belt.

Troughing Idler -
Idlers mounted on the top side of the belt which carries the material.

Return Idler -
Idlers mounted underneath the belt to support the belt.

Rubber Disc Return Idler -
A return idler that has multiple rubber discs instead of one solid steel can.  This greatly adds to the prevention of material buildup.  When the material builds up on return idlers, belts do not stay tracked (centered) and can even stop.

Self Aligning Idlers -
Idlers that track the conveyor belt automatically by floating on a bearing and constantly adjusting to the belt tracking.  The Scalper 107T uses these to track the belts.

Overs -
Product that does not pass through a screen.

Pivot Plate -
The plate on the lower end of the conveyor around which the conveyor swivels, or pivots, when it is making a radial stockpile.

Plow -
The spreader plate at the top of the main conveyor belt on a conventional screening plant that spreads material out across the screen.

Pulley -
The large roller at the end of the conveyor which the belt wraps around.

Wing Tail Pulley -
A paddle type pulley used on the tail, or the lower end of the conveyors.  These are better than drum pulleys because they clean the underside of the conveyor belt, which keeps the belt running and centered.

Lag Head Pulley -
A rubber covered pulley used on the head or upper end of the conveyor to drive the conveyors.  The rubber acts like a tread to drive the conveyor.  The thicker the rubber lagging, the longer the pulley lasts.

Screen Module -
This is a screen on a stand used in conjunction with other stationary or semi stationary equipment.

Screw, Fines Material Washing -
Also called a dewatering screw, this machine washes and separates the fines from the water.  The screw is located under the collection chute under the screen and catches all water and fines.

Shaker Screen -
A mechanical device that vibrates to sift materials to different sizes.  Shaker screens can have either 2 or 3 decks of screens.

Shredder -
The high speed flailed hammermill that pulverizes dirt on conventional screening machines.  All conventional screening plants have the option of having a shredder installed.

Shredder Blades -
The free swinging part of the hammermill that breaks up dirt clumps.

Shredder Rods -
The part that holds the blades in place on the hammermill.

Smooth Start Technology -
This Screen Machine patent pending design allows Scalper screens to start up, warm up and shut down smoothly without causing these machines to jump around dangerously, causing excessive wear and damage to the machine.

Sod Deck -
A rod type screen used as a top deck on conventional screening plants in dirt applications.  Sod decks reduce plugging due to sod clumps.  (see picture in TYPES OF SCREENS section)

Spray Bars -
Water pipes and valves that are added to shaker screens for washing applications.

Spyder -
Self contained machines that have all of the elements of conventional machines with the addition of attached conveyors to move sized products away from the machine.

T -1 Steel -
This is an extremely hard steel excellent for impacts and wear.

Trommel Screen -
A barrel type screen that rotates to tumble the material during sizing.

Weight Box -
The heavy concrete block that holds down the end of stacking conveyors.  On 40’ conveyors, a weight box version allows for a greater stockpiling capacity than a pivot plate version.

Wire Cloth -

Square opening screen used to size material on any type of screening plant (Scalper, Spyder or Conventional (see picture in TYPE OF SCREENS section.
